If you've been searching the internet lately for ideas and plans on how to save money by using wind or solar power, you've probably run across some ads for an ebook called
Earth4Energy. And if you're like me, you're probably a little skeptical. Their claim is that by following these plans, you'll be able to reduce, or even eliminate your electrical bills. You're also probably wondering;
Is Earth 4 Energy a Scam???That's a pretty lofty claim coming from a relative newcomer to the solar and wind power arena. Is it really practical and possible to cut your electrical bill by so much that you'll quit paying for electricity? What's even more remarkable is their claim that even the average Joe can easily and cheaply build these at home, with common tools and no special training.
Being an experienced DIY'er and having built a few solar projects in the form of solar collectors, solar cells, and a solar shower, plus a wind turbine that i built with a friend, i decided to check this out.
As we mentioned before, it's new. The
guide has just been released, and it's geared towards anyone that interested in lowering their residential energy bills through the use of alternative energy - namely solar and wind energy. The author of the guide, Michael Harvey, claims that you'll be able to reduce your utility bills by 80 percent or even possibly eliminate them completely if you're using both of the solar and wind power generators that he shows you how to make. Let's take a look at both of the methods he advocates
First up is the solar portion of the guide. Michael skillfully explains the basics of solar energy and its suitability to task when it comes to lowering your electricity bills. He then provides a few different methods and plans for different solar power systems that you may choose to use. From a simple and inexpensive portable solar power generator, up to complex grid-tied solar panel systems - he provides an excellent set of instructions and drawings that anyone could follow along with clear explanations of why he does what he does. You don't need to be Mr. Goodwrench to build and maintain any of these plans.
Next up is the wind portion. He follows the same logical path with this section as he did with the solar portion. He starts out by providing a very informative background narrative on wind power and the important issues that are involved with using windmills and wind turbines. And in the process provides a great buyers guide for commercial wind turbines and generators if you should choose to go that route. Finally, he presents plans to build your own wind generator at home. Now these aren't just some idea that was scribbled on a napkin, these are thorough, well thought out, and extremely detailed plans with diagrams that allow you build a fully functional windmill. And the best part is that you can do it cheaply. Now I'm not 100% sold on his claim that you can build it for under 200$, it may be a bit more than that depending on parts availability, and where you're located. But it's close enough to not worry about it.
So overall, it appears that Mr. Harvey has indeed produced a useful and worthwhile product that's geared towards anyone interested in using solar or wind power. And the fact that his plans are so easy to follow is a huge selling point in that it's truly geared to the average person that wants to DIY. He gets bonus points for that. The only downside that i see are the estimates for the cost of both units. He claims that you can build them each for under 200 dollars, but when i tried to source the materials that were required, i couldn't get them for under $250. Much of that though was due to the recent increases in shipping caused by...You guessed it, Spiraling Energy Costs!!! So to answer the initial question, is
Earth 4 Energy a scam?
It is most definitely NOT a scam. It's a great product for anyone, beginner or experienced, that want to build their own solar panels and wind generators. It's also constantly being updated to reflect the latest changes in technology.
